Forecast Discussion

Issued: Friday, November 8, 2019 - 8:15PM

Forecaster: Brennen Perry

Lake effect snow and local snow squalls are expected to develop overnight Friday northeast of Georgian Bay with the heaviest snowfall occurring between 4-10 AM on Saturday. Intense snowfall rates between 2-6cm per hour and whiteout conditions are likely within the strongest bands. The focus will be on a small zone between Parry Sound and Burk’s Falls where over 20cm is possible by Saturday evening. Elsewhere, the potential snowfall accumulation will drop off very fast as you go away from the target zone even by a few kilometres due to the isolated nature of this event. The organized snow squall will weaken by the noon hour on Saturday with lake effect snow and flurries continuing into the afternoon and early although little accumulation is expected.
