The frigid temperatures that we’ve been experiencing over the past few days will continue into tomorrow (January 13th). It may even feel a bit warmer than it has for some, with temperatures feeling close to -25°C in southern Alberta.
Winds throughout the day should be fairly light (10-20 km/h), meaning the wind chill will not be much cooler than the actual temperature. The coldest region tomorrow will spread from the British Columbia border through Grande Prairie and into Slave Lake. Expect wind chill values in this area to be around -43°C at the warmest part of the afternoon.
Further to the east, in an area stretching to Cold Lake and Lloydminster, temperatures will the in the -35 to -40°C range. To the south, Edmonton and Red Deer will be slightly warmer, feeling in the low -30s. A large swath from Jasper to Calgary and across to Medicine Hat will be the warmest, in the -25 to -30°C. It is possible that some pockets in the mountains may see some slightly warmer air, making it feel closer to a balmy -20°C.
There are still a few more days of this cold snap ahead, with the coldest day yet looking to be on Tuesday (January 14th). It is important to remember that with extreme cold, especially when combined with wind, frostbite can set in within minutes so make sure to bundle up when going out.
