Forecast Discussion
Pop-up slow-moving thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening across parts of Southwestern and Central Ontario. The main threats are heavy rainfall (100+mm) that could cause flash flooding, especially if these storms ‘train’ over a particular area for several hours along with damaging wind gusts. Small hail is also possible but we don’t expect anything larger than nickel or quarter size hail. The tornado risk is low, but the environment is favourable for the development of funnel clouds and in some cases can become a brief landspout tornado. There is also the possibility of some storm development over Lake Erie late in the evening that could affect the GTA and Niagara region, but the severity of the storms is questionable and if anything will at most present a flooding threat.
