Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible stretching from Fort Frances through Thunder Bay and into parts of Northeastern Ontario on Thursday. Storms are expected to develop during the early afternoon hours and slowly track to the southeast throughout the rest of the afternoon into the evening.

While they should be non-severe for the most part, there is the potential for a few storms to bring marginally severe hail and wind gusts. An isolated tornado can’t be ruled out but the overall risk is fairly low.

A line of isolated storms is expected to develop in Northwestern Ontario during the afternoon on Wednesday and slowly track to the southeast throughout the day. Current indications suggest that the environment is favourable for this line of storms to feature a few discrete supercells in the more remote parts of Extreme Northern Ontario.

This includes locations such as Lansdown House and Fort Hope where we have a slight risk for severe storms. These storms could produce up to toonie-sized hail and 100+ km/h wind gusts. The potential is also there for an isolated tornado, although due to the low population density in this region, any tornado will likely not pose a threat to human life and probably go unrecorded.

An isolated risk of severe storms extends into Sioux Lookout, Armstrong, Attawapiskat and Fort Albany. They could see some marginally severe hail and wind gust gusts as the line of storms move through. The rest of Northern Ontario can expect non-severe thunderstorm activity primarily during the later part of Wednesday.
