NORTHERN ONTARIO: Wildfire Risk Forecast for Tuesday, July 4, 2023

Extreme wildfire risk has made its return to Northern Ontario along with high temperatures in the upper 20s and low 30s expected tomorrow. Northwestern Ontario has seen more moisture than Northeastern Ontario, resulting in mostly low and moderate risk with a patch of high risk to the west while in the east, there is high and extreme risk. In particular, Fort Albany and Moosonee are under extreme risk for tomorrow. The heat is only expected to last for two days and it will be followed by cooler, moist air and light rain, which should mitigate the extreme wildfire risk later in the week.

The extreme wildfire risk covers much of the same area as yesterday, but with temperatures remaining in the 20s and fairly dry conditions, the area that can expect high risk conditions has expanded greatly. Rainfall in the Fort Frances and Atikokan area will bring the wildfire risk down to low and moderate for today.

We’re continuing to see the area of extreme wildfire risk in Northern Ontario shrink as a cold front pushes through the region. High temperatures in the upper teens and low 20s help in limiting the extreme risk, but a lack of precipitation means that widespread high risk is still present.

The extreme wildfire risk for today has shrunk eastwards with the expansion of moderate risk in Northwestern Ontario due to some light rain and a cold front that’s slowly making its way across Northern Ontario. The only areas that can expect low risk today are around Kenora and Fort Severn. High temperatures will still reach the upper 20s and low 30s across most of the region which will maintain the widespread high to extreme risk.

Very high temperatures in the upper 20s and low 30s continue to be the main driver for a large area of extreme wildfire risk in Northern Ontario. Along the Manitoba border, the risk is low to moderate as a result of precipitation in the area.

High temperatures approaching, and possibly exceeding, 30°C will be the driving factor for a large area of extreme wildfire risk that is expected in Northern Ontario tomorrow.

Most of Northern Ontario can expect a high wildfire risk today and the area of moderate risk continues to shrink following the heavy rain from Monday and into Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to rise, with highs approaching 30°C beginning Monday so it is likely that we will see the return of extreme fire risk.

SOUTHERN ONTARIO: Wildfire Risk Forecast for Saturday, June 17, 2023

High wildfire risk returns to a large part of Southern Ontario today with no rain expected and temperatures in the low to mid 20s. There will continue to be a small patch of low risk in the Niagara Region and moderate risk in Southwestern Ontario as well as in Prince Edward County and east to include Kingston and Brockville.

The area of low risk in Northern Ontario will be smaller tomorrow with only a bit of rain expected. High temperatures will once again not exceed 20°C across the region and when combined with moderate relative humidity and low winds, the wildfire risk across the region is expected to remain steady with high risk across most of Northern Ontario.

As things continue to dry following the heavy rain from Monday, we will see the wildfire risk increase to moderate across more of Southern Ontario. For tomorrow, rain is expected from Windsor to Ottawa which will keep the risk at low.

The effects of abundant rainfall across Southern Ontario yesterday has carried over to today with a widespread low wildfire risk.

NORTHERN ONTARIO: Wildfire Risk Forecast for Monday, June 12, 2023

Significant rainfall is expected to move in to parts of Northeastern Ontario overnight tonight and continue throughout the day tomorrow, resulting in a decrease in wildfire risk for this area. In particular, communities south of a line from Marathon, through Kapuskasing, and into Quebec, can expect the wildfire risk to be low to moderate. The rest of Northern Ontario can expect to stay under a high risk with a lack of moisture and high temperatures into the mid and upper 20s.

SOUTHERN ONTARIO: Wildfire Risk Forecast for Monday, June 12, 2023

Widespread rainfall of 30-50+mm overnight tonight and throughout the day tomorrow will put a major dent in the wildfire risk across Southern Ontario. At this point, it appears that this low risk will continue until Thursday so there is the possibility that some open air fire restrictions may been loosened or lifted.

SOUTHERN ONTARIO: Wildfire Risk Forecast for Saturday, June 10, 2023

After some scattered showers today in Central and Eastern Ontario and into the GTA, dry conditions will continue tomorrow, elevating most of the area from low to moderate risk. The high risk is expected again for Parry Sound and into Southwestern Ontario, but the extreme risk region has expanded as a result of the continued lack of moisture and temperatures in the mid to upper 20s. There is widespread rainfall expected to move into Southern Ontario beginning Sunday, which will decrease the overall wildfire risk across the region.

Please continue to follow the guidelines set out by local authorities when it comes to open air burning at this time.

NORTHERN ONTARIO: Wildfire Risk Forecast for Friday, June 9, 2023

The wildfire risk is expected to be high across most of Northern Ontario on Friday with a small area of extreme risk along the north shore of Lake Huron from approximately Espanola to Bruce Mines and north to Elliot Lake. A large area of moderate risk can be found in the Northwest, including two pockets of low risk within that area.

All fire restrictions and bans that have been issued by the MNR are still in place so please continue to abide by the directions of local authorities.
